Wireless torque measurement on rotating shafts

TorqueTrak 10K is a wireless telemetry-system for measuring Torque on rotating shafts in real-time.
The high sampling rate makes the system suitable for both Torque measurement and torsional vibration analysis of powertrains.

TorqueTrak 10K

Temporary torque measurement on rotating shafts

TorqueTrak 10K is a wireless telemetry system for measuring torque on rotating shafts in real-time. The system makes it possible to convert an existing drive shaft into an accurate torque meter by simply mounting a strain gauge, transmitter and battery directly on the shaft.

The system requires No modification of the machine or disassembly of the axle, making it ideal for temporary measurements and diagnostic tests.

TorqueTrak 10K is often used in conjunction with:

  • marine propulsion systems
  • gears and drivetrains
  • Motor and pump test
  • Performance analysis of rotating machinery

High sampling rate for torsional vibration analysis

TorqueTrak 10K can transmit data with a Sampling rate of up to 2400 samples per second and has a frequency response of up to 500 Hz, making it suitable for analysing dynamic loads in powertrains.

This makes it possible to analyse:

  • torsional vibrations
  • torque oscillations
  • powertrain dynamics

The system can therefore be used for both shaft power measurement and torsional vibration analysis.

How the system works

TorqueTrak 10K measures torque using strain gauges mounted directly on the axle.

The signal from the strain gauge is sent wirelessly via telemetry to a receiver where data can be displayed, logged and analysed.

The system typically consists of:

  • TX10K transmitter mounted on the axle
  • strain gauges which measures deformation in the axle
  • RX10K receiver to receive the signal
  • data acquisition software for logging and analysing

The telemetry system can transmit the signal over several metres, making it possible to measure safely from a stationary position.

Key features

  • Wireless torque measurement on rotating shafts
  • No interference with the machine or shaft
  • High sampling rate for dynamic analysis
  • Frequency response up to 500 Hz
  • Possibility of multiple simultaneous measurement systems
  • Analogue or digital data output

Typical applications

TorqueTrak 10K is used for, among other things:

  • measuring torque on marine propeller shafts
  • Performance analysis of powertrains
  • Energy efficiency and fuel optimisation
  • Torsional vibration analysis
  • Testing and troubleshooting on rotating machinery

Integration with measurement software

Measurement data from TorqueTrak 10K can be recorded and analysed via DAQ10K data acquisition software, which allows you to:

  • Real-time display of torque data
  • data logging under test
  • Calculation of shaft power
  • Export measurement data to CSV or Excel
