Vibration measurement and analysis of rotating machinery

Applying vibration measurement and analysis to rotating machinery can save money. This is because it ensures that vibrations are kept to a minimum, thereby extending the service life of the various components.

At the same time, expensive production stoppages are avoided because the tool can predict when a machine is going to fail.

How is machine performance measured?

Vibrations are present on all rotating machines during operation. These vibrations contain important information about the condition of the machine and its components.

This method has proven to be particularly effective for monitoring the condition of machines and for troubleshooting. By measuring vibrations in machines, it is possible to predict machine faults at a very early stage. Machines change over time, and so do vibrations, which is why it is important to constantly monitor the condition of the machine.

Using professional equipment that both measures in real time and predicts potential machine faults makes it easier to monitor the condition. This allows you to carry out the most appropriate maintenance measures, avoid costly production stoppages and replace spare parts that are still in good condition.

Online and offline vibration measurement

There are two ways to measure vibrations:

It is also possible to combine the methods depending on the type of plant in question.

How we measure the condition of machines

The vibrations are measured using a sensor (accelerometer) that is attached to the machine using a magnet. The vibration sensor is connected to a data collector that can analyse the vibrations produced by the machine.

The most common faults we detect are bearing faults, imbalances, misalignments, poor foundations or general looseness in the machine. We always measure vibrations while the machine is in operation, so you avoid having to stop production while the measurement is taking place.

The advantage of using vibration measurement

With a tailor-made Condition Vibration Monitoring Programme, you can maintain the condition of your machines without having to stop production.

The advantage of using a vibration meter with FFT is that you get an instant snapshot of your equipment without having to plan downtime. The tool also provides information about which parts need to be replaced, so you don't end up replacing components that are not faulty. At the same time, you reduce the risk of breakdowns.

Vibration analysis of machine condition

In connection with vibration measurement of machines, regular analyses of the machine's condition should also be carried out.

Vibration analysis helps predict when a machine will fail. When the tool is used regularly, it is possible to detect incipient faults at a very early stage. This allows us to plan servicing and order spare parts well in advance, thereby avoiding consequential damage from, for example, a breakdown.

We use a vibration sensor and a data collector, and we can perform several different measurements, including:

Vibration measurement for all industries

We have references from many different industries, so whether it is on land, at sea or in the air, we can help with vibration measurements and analyses of your machines.

We perform, among other things vibration measurements on buildings, printing companies and wind turbines, as well as typically using our tools on combined heat and power plants and in the marine industry.
