A4900-Vibrio EX

A4900 Vibrio EX is an EX-approved handheld vibration meter for use in Zone 1. Measures vibrations in velocity, acceleration and displacement and FFT, time waveform and rental condition.

A4900 Vibrio EX

EX-approved handheld vibration meter for use in hazardous areas

The road to Condition Based Maintenance also starts in EX zones. With A4900 Vibrio EX you get a handheld vibration meter that makes it possible to check the condition of machines in areas where there are requirements for ATEX..

The instrument combines Plug and play operation, automatic fault detection and predefined measurements so you can quickly get started with vibration measurement on pumps, motors, fans, gears and other rotating equipment in EX environments. The A4900 Vibrio EX is designed as a ATEX version of the Vibrio series and is certified for Zone 1 in gas atmospheres.

A4900 Vibrio EX - vibration measurement in EX areas

If you have rotating machinery in an area where standard measuring equipment cannot be used, then A4900 Vibrio EX an obvious solution.

The tool is designed for companies that want to work in a more structured way with Condition monitoring and predictive maintenance, even in potentially explosive environments. The measurements are predefined and the operation is simple, making it possible to get fast and consistent results directly at the machine. At the same time, you get access to data that can be used to follow developments over time and react before faults develop into downtime.

A4900 Vibrio EX is classified as:

II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 Gb

Among other things, this means that the tool is suitable for non-miningZone 1gas atmospheres, and that the principle of protection is Intrinsic Safety according to EN 60079-11. The equipment is also specified for gas group IIC and temperature class T4

What errors can A4900 Vibrio EX identify?

Using vibration measurements, FFT analysis and automatic diagnostic functions, the A4900 Vibrio EX can be used to identify typical machine faults such as:

  • imbalance
  • bearing frame
  • misalignment
  • mechanical looseness
  • Gear-related vibrations
  • Increased vibration levels throughout the machine
  • Incipient failure development in bearings and other rotating components

The instrument also includes FASIT (Fault Source Identification Tool), which helps with automatic assessment of fault causes. This provides a quick overview of the machine's condition and makes it easier to prioritise maintenance.

Measurement features of the A4900 Vibrio EX

The A4900 Vibrio EX is more than a simple vibration meter. It combines several key measurement functions in one EX-approved device:

Overall values - RMS and Peak

The instrument measures both velocity to assess the overall vibration condition of the machine and acceleration for assessing bearings and high-frequency vibrations. In addition, it also supports displacement

FFT - spectrum analysis

With FFT, you can see which frequencies dominate the measurement, making it easier to assess whether the vibrations are caused by imbalance, faulty bearings, gears or other mechanical conditions. The instrument also indicates the 3 highest peaks in the spectrum.

Time waveform

The time signal makes it easier to assess shocks, impacts and other time-dependent phenomena in the machine, for example when observing early bearing damage.

Demodulation / Envelope

Demodulated measurements are used to detect high-frequency pulses and early signs of bearing damage that are often not evident in the regular overall values.

Frequency bands

The A4900 Vibrio EX also works with frequency bands to identify where the highest acceleration levels occur.

Automatic speed detection

The instrument supports automatic RPM detection, making measurements more user-friendly and consistent.

DDS analysis software

The A4900 Vibrio EX can transfer measurement data to PC so results can be stored, analysed and compared over time. On the regular A4900 side, TME Solutions already highlights DDS (Digital Diagnostic System) as software for storage, analysis, trending, measurement routes and reporting, and the same working method makes sense for the EX version when measurements need to be documented systematically.

It gives you the opportunity to:

  • Follow the development of vibration levels over time
  • Compare measurements from the same machine
  • Build measurement routes and fixed inspection points
  • Support a simple and effective predictive maintenance programme

Typical applications

A4900 Vibrio EX is relevant for vibration measurement on rotating equipment in areas where EX-approved equipment is required, for example:

  • pumps
  • electric motors
  • fans
  • gear
  • compressors
  • Process equipment in oil, gas, chemical and other industries with EX requirements

It can be used as a simple first step towards more structured condition monitoring and better maintenance decisions. The combination of EX approval, predefined measurements and automatic fault detection makes it particularly attractive for organisations that want a simple solution without compromising on safety.
