Acoustic camera for measuring air and gas leaks
With an acoustic camera, air and gas leaks can be visualised directly on the screen. The technology makes it possible to quickly find leaks in compressed air systems, pipework and process plants - even from a distance.
At TME Solutions we offer Sales, rental and inspection with technician of acoustic cameras from CRYSOUND.
What is an acoustic camera
An acoustic camera is a handheld instrument that visualises sound.
The camera consists of a array of MEMS microphones, which detects ultrasound from air and gas leaks, for example. The signal is digitally processed and combined with a visual camera to display the sound source directly on the screen.
The result is a live image where the leak is marked with a colour scale, which represents the strength of the sound.
This means that the operator can quickly locate leaks without using traditional methods such as soapy water or manual scanning.
Why measure air leaks?
Many companies have high energy losses from compressed air systems.
It is not uncommon for 20-30 % of compressed air disappears through leaks.
An acoustic camera makes it possible to:
- Locate leaks quickly
- Document leaks with images and video
- Estimate energy loss
- Prioritise repairs
The result is often a Fast payback through energy savings.
Maximum distance from camera to the leak
CRYSOUND acoustic cameras can identify leaks at distances up to 120 metres, depending on the size and surroundings of the leak.
This makes the technology suitable for:
- Highly positioned pipes
- Hard-to-reach installations
- Dangerous areas
- Large industrial plants
Electrical discharges (Partial Discharge)
In addition to leak detection, acoustic cameras can also be used to detect electrical discharges.
Partial discharge, corona and arcs generate ultrasound that can be visualised with the camera.
This makes it possible to inspect:
- High voltage installations
- Transformers
- Switchgear
- Switchboards
at a safe distance.
Sales, rental or metering with technician
At TME Solutions, we offer several options depending on your needs.
Buying an acoustic camera
If you want to work systematically with leak detection yourself, we can supply acoustic cameras from CRYSOUND with software and support.
This allows you to continuously optimise the energy consumption of your facility.
Camera hire
If you only need the camera for a short period of time, we offer rental.
For example, it can be for:
- Energy screening
- Maintenance campaigns
- Test the technology before investing
Rental with technician
We also offer complete inspections, where we go through your facility and provide a report:
- localised leaks
- images and documentation
- Energy loss assessment
- recommendations for repair
This is often the fastest way to get an overview of leaks in a facility.
Tough and designed for industrial use
CRYSOUND acoustic cameras are designed for use in industrial environments.
The cameras are:
- Built in aluminium
- IP54 rated
- Designed for use in dusty and demanding environments
Several models also available in ATEX versions to explosive areas.
Typical applications
Acoustic cameras are used in many industries, including:
- Industry and manufacturing
- energy and utilities
- marine and offshore
- process industry
- power plants
The technology is especially effective for finding:
- compressed air leaks
- gas leaks
- vacuum leaks
- electrical discharges
- mechanical noise
